Adobe offers Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Soundbooth betas

I know what you are thinking, they just came out with the Adobe CS3 suite adnd now they are gearing up for a new release? I think Adobe has learned a lot from the public beta release of Photoshop CS3 and then with Lightroom and several others that followed. I think that this is a great idea and will only make the products better.

I my self have had issues with Dreamweaver CS3 on an Intel Mac. I can only hope that beta releases like these will make the upgrades seam less and painless.

Here is where you will find Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Soundbooth.

Contest Time is Winding Down!

Photopreneur For Your Photos

Photopreneur is aimed at anyone who owns a camera. The relatively low cost of digital cameras has put the means to create professional quality images in the hands of almost anyone who wants to do so. Clearly, not everyone has the talent or the knowledge to create photos that sell. But some people do, not all of them are professional, and many would like to earn money from their skills. We hope to help those people generate some income from their photography. Check it out here!

Celebration Of Vintage and Retro Design

Retro and vintage designs are often considered as being outdated, looking old, unattractive and dull. That’s not true. Although compared to modern design, retro is mostly a completely different realm, it has a large variety of benefits modern graphic designers often tend to overlook. And that’s a pity. Because we, as designers, can learn a lot from it.

Final Projects

Well it is the end of yet another semester at SUNY Broome. Every semester I think, wow, these students did a great job, I don't know how the next class is going to top them, but it happens every time. I was hoping that all my students would submit their work but it is not mandatory. There will still be a few more that I will add in as they trickle in. If any one would like to see some of the final projects that the talented students did in my class BIT 285 Advanced Vector Graphics, which is a Illustrator and Advance Photoshop class, then view them here.

The requirements for this project are to combine a minimum of 4 different creatures or humans, preferably animals. They also need to create a logo in Illustrator that they need to use in the project. As you will see there are wonderful results.

DaVinci Festival

As a designer in a corporate environment, I am always looking for new ideas and fresh new styles. Well it is so easy to forget to have fun and enjoy what you are doing. John and I stoped over to the DaVinci Festival student art show yesterday. Works of art from all over the Broome County area in many different mediums. I love to see just about any art show, but these kids really showed us some nice creative work! Everything from sculpture to photography, water color to colored pencil and ink.

Student art work from the surrounding school districts, grades K-12. The show runs until May 27th and gallery hours are M-F from 9am until 5pm. Weekends the gallery is closed. The show is on the second floor of the City building in downtown Binghamton.

These students worked hard on these pieces, if you go I am sure you will not be disapointed. If you are in the Windsor Elementary School section "Bell Elementary" there was one piece that really stood out to me done by a young budding artist Karaleigh Saar, not that I would be biased or anything.

Graphic Tips Blog Header Contest

Just a quick note on the contest. I would like the header to visually communicate "Graphic Tips". Eyedeas Design is not the name of my blog, it is our freelance company, but this blog is mostly just my Graphic Tips. I promote Eyedeas Design on the blog, and I am happy to make the connection.

So far the entries are coming in just nice, and there are some very nice designs. Keep them coming.

12 Ways To Tap Your Creativity

With the Blog contest going and a previous post of how to get out of a design lull, one of my Students Jeremy Sabacek sent me this link to 12 ways to tap your creativity. It talks about a lot of things that I was taught in college and what I am telling my students all the time. Some of these things are just there and we don't know it.

If there is one thing I love to do, seeing what trends, colors, ideas techniques, fonts and lay outs are hot, new or fresh. For those who know me, I love vintage design and layouts, they teach you and show you so much. My day is not complete with out learning some thing new no matter how big or small. I love my job, and this one a big reason why. To quote my favorite professor Joe Watson from RIT, "What other job can you draw pictures all day and get paid for it?"

Searching for Images

For those who know me, you will be set back on this post. My students and my self look for a lot of photos all the time for different things and Google image search is one to the places I frequent. One thing that a lot of people are surprised to find out is that you can go to a drop down in the top left of the Google image search and tell it that you only want small images, med images or large images.

Well Google image search is still good but I have found that "Live Search" from Microsoft is extremely good. I know, you read that correctly I said some thing good about Microsoft. They do have a few things that they do well, and this is one of them. You can ask what size you would like to get and you get a ton of good results
