Colonial Williamsburg

I don't know if you could tell or not, but I was on vacation this week. We went to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and Water Country USA! We had a fantastic time. It was fun for all, along with being educational. I know you don't care to much about my vacation, what does this have to do with graphics or art? Williamsburg is rich with traditions and great fundamental design. Simple clean design that we take for granted. It was great to step back and look at the archetecture and details and artwork and say wow. The craftsmenship and time that went into these projects are amazing.

Photoshop CS2 and CS3 updates to address security vulnerabilities

Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Photoshop CS2 and CS3 that could allow an attacker who successfully exploits these potential vulnerabilities to take control of the affected system. Open source software alternatives to well-known commercial software

A friend of mine Don Gerlach, Director of Technology over at Susquehanna Valley High School showed me a great alternative to very expensive brand name software. Let me state right off the bat that I don't think if you have Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator you should ditch them and get these. The situation here is if you want to try some of these with out paying a lot and not using them, well here you go. High school students and some college students will benefit greatly from some of these.

If you want to get a job in the real world you will need learn what they use. These are great free alternatives for those novis to begginer users. Take a look.

PDN's Photography Annual

As PDN's Photo Annual marks another year of extraordinary photography, we honor the contest winners who grace the following pages. From Lauren Greenfield's heart-wrenching multimedia project, "Thin," to Gary Schneider's hauntlingly beautiful photo story about obesity, this year's contest was a study in extremes. Whether it be apoignant social statement, such as Jan Grarup's Newsweek documentation of the devastation in Darfur, or a perfectly nutty ad campaign like Lyndon Wade's for Nestle Crunch, each image has its own identity, worthy of recognition.
